Statement as of 3:45 AM EST on January 25, 2009

... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 5 am EST
Monday...
... Wind Chill Advisory is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has cancelled the Wind
Chill Advisory. A lake effect snow warning remains in effect
until 5 am EST Monday.

Bands of lake effect snow off Lake Ontario will continue to
impact central and southern Jefferson County today... including
the Watertown area. The lake snows will extend into Lewis
County... generally west of Lowville and Croghan. The lake snows
are expected to settle south later this afternoon and tonight
across the Tug Hill region of southern Jefferson and Lewis
counties.

Additional significant accumulations can be expected during this
time with total accumulations by Monday morning ranging from 6 to
12 inches in the Watertown area to at least two feet over the Tug
Hill. These snowfall amounts will likely cause major travel
problems on Interstate 81 as well as the secondary roads in the
region.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite source of
weather information for the latest updates. Additional details
can also be found at www.Weather.Gov/Buffalo.

In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow
in narrow bands to clear skies just a few miles away. If you will
be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in
Road and visibility conditions.

Temperatures have warmed due to the lake effect snow and
associated cloud cover. It still will be bitterly cold with wind
chills of zero to 15 below through the morning. Therefore... if
you will be outdoors use common sense and dress warmly... making
sure that all exposed skin is covered.

Statement as of 6:07 AM EST on January 25, 2009

... Heavy lake snows impacting the Watertown area...

A broad area of moderate to occasionally heavy lake effect
snow will continue across Jefferson County this morning. The
most persistent and heaviest snows will impact central and
southern Jefferson County... including the Watertown area.
Snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour will be likely.

If you will be driving through this area this morning... be aware
that the driving conditions will be very difficult. Roads will
be snow covered and motorists should allow for plenty of extra
time to reach their destination. Visibilities will likely be
drastically reduced. Some affected routes will be Interstate
81... between Watertown and Adams... Route 11 and Route 126 between
Carthage and Watertown.
